The author, who works in the physics and astronomy department at Sonoma State University, maintains the web site http://www.badastronomy.com. This book, presents some of the ideas on the site, as well as new information, in more detail. Does an egg really stand on end during the equinox? Why do stars, and some planets twinkle? Plait explains it all, in easy to understand language. Also, you don't want to miss the top-ten worst examples of astronomy from film.
An index and recommended reading are included.

Many academics believe that no culture can be understand without knowing the language of the culture. In Coe's Breaking the Maya Code he chronicles the story of scientific discovery, intuition, academic infighting, and fate that led to the understanding of the written language of the Maya, and a deeper understanding of their culture and history. In many ways an armchair detective story, this volume is well worth reading.
Photographs, notes, a glossary, further reading, and an index are included.

Michael Novacek spent most of the 1990s leading an expedition in the Gobi in Mongolia. He and his team found an invaluable site of dinosaur and mammal fossils, including new species. The book Novacek has written chronicles the field life that he and his team lived, discusses the fossils they found, teaches, and informs the reader. .
Photographs and illustrations are included, as well as notes and an index.
