Fossil Lake: Paleontology
and Preparation at Fossil Butte National Monument / Jensen, UT: Dinosaur
Nature Association, 198-.
Although short at a mere
17 minutes, this video manages to pack a great deal of information into a small
amount of time. Experts on Fossil Lake, a paleontologist from the Field Museum
in Chicago and a sedimentologist from Loma Linda University, bring the viewers
to a greater understanding the wonderful scientific resource at Fossil Lake
in Wyoming.
The scientists discuss how they are attempting to get a clearer picture of natural
history by coming fossil information and sediment information and how they can
look at the layers of sediment and remnants to examine different periods of
the lake's existence. Also discussed in the video is field collection. In fact,
a fun portion of the video is watching a fossil marked off with a ruler and
then removed by chainsaw and chisel to be taken back to the lab for further
study.
