Construction of Cowell Hall, connecting North American Hall (left) and Simson African Hall (right) for the first time, and completely enclosing the main courtyard. The Whale Fountain was moved toward the center of the new courtyard to make room for the new building. The de Young Museum is visible across the Music Concourse.
