Hypophthalmus Agassiz [L.] in Spix & Agassiz 1829:16 Masc. Hypophthalmus edentatus Spix & Agassiz 1829. Type by subsequent designation. Type designated by Bleeker 1862:15 [ref. 393] and 1863:109 [ref. 401] as edentatus. Treated as valid (Stewart 1986:667 et seq.
