Holotype: USNM 103027. Paratypes: USNM 103028 (2). •Valid as Polyipnus triphanos Schultz 1938 -- (Fujii in Masuda et al. 1984:47 [ref. 6441], Aizawa 1990:97 [ref. 20451], Harold 1994:495 [ref. 21941], Harold 1999:1902 [ref. 24741], Paxton et al. 2006:427 [ref. 28995], Larson et al. 2013:45 [ref. 32988], Harold et al. 2016:564 [ref. 34450], Gloerfelt-Tarp & Kailola 2022:65 [ref. 41223]). Current status: Valid as Polyipnus triphanos Schultz 1938. Sternoptychidae: Sternoptychinae. Distribution: Eastern Indian Ocean, western Pacific: Indonesia north to South China Sea, south to eastern Australia. Habitat: marine.
