Gonorynchus Scopoli [J. A.] (ex Gronow) 1777:450 Masc. Cyprinus gonorynchus Linnaeus 1766. Described without species; first addition of species not researched. Based on Gonorynchus of Gronow 1763:55 [ref. 1910]. See also Gonorinchus Bosc 1817:v. 13, p. 301 [ref. 5126] as discussed by Whitley 1936:190 [ref. 6397]. Original spelling is Gonorynchus; also seen as Gonorhynchus and Gonorrhynchus.
