Based on a pre-Linnean name Antaceus used by Gesner 1558:59 [ref. 30350] and by Marsigli 1726:34 in De piscibus in aquis Danubii viventibus, as Huso II seu Antaceus glaber. Latinized to Antaceus, made available and type selected by Jordan 1919:185 [ref. 2410].
