Based on a pre-Linnean name Antaceus used by Gesner 1558:59 [ref. 30350] and by Marsilius 1726:34 [ref. 42353], as Huso II seu Antaceus glaber. Latinized to Antaceus and made available by Bonaparte 1846 [ref. 519]. Type selected by Jordan 1919:185 [ref. 2410].
