Holotype (unique): BMNH 1906.9.8.140. •Valid as Cyphotilapia frontosa (Boulenger 1906) -- (Maréchal & Poll 1991:69 [ref. 20946], Simon 1994:18 [ref. 21862], Poll & Gosse 1995:229 [ref. 24781], Takahashi & Nakaya 2003:824 [ref. 27263], Konings 2015:183 [ref. 34660], Konings 2019:194 [ref. 36983]). Current status: Valid as Cyphotilapia frontosa (Boulenger 1906). Cichlidae: Pseudocrenilabrinae. Distribution: Eastern Africa: Lake Tanganyika. Habitat: freshwater.

Paratypes: FAKU 83368-69 (1, 1); HUMZ 122873 (1), 157312-13 (1, 1), 182844 -49 (1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1); MRAC A2-33-P1 (1), A2-33-P2 (1). •Synonym of Cyphotilapia frontosa (Boulenger 1906) -- (Konings 2015:188 [ref. 34660], Konings 2019:197 [ref. 36983]). Current status: Synonym of Cyphotilapia frontosa (Boulenger 1906). Cichlidae: Pseudocrenilabrinae. Habitat: freshwater.
