Holotype: MZUSP 130914. Paratypes: CZNC [= ?], MZUSP, UFBA. Plus additional non-type material. •Valid as Characidium tupi Zanata & Oliveira-Silva 2025. Current status: Valid as Characidium tupi Zanata & Oliveira-Silva 2025. Crenuchidae: Characidiinae. Distribution: South America: Buranhém, dos Frades, Itanhém, Jucuruçu and Sao Mateus River drainages, northeastern Mata Atlantica, eastern Brazil. Habitat: freshwater.
